| Dare To Do It... |
| Clearly Black LGBT people were not a major factor for the most recent State of Black America facilitated by the incredible Tavis Smiley. Perhaps not enough is known about Black LGBT/SGL, seemly invisible to many. Perhaps the issues of Black people in general are the same for Black LGBT/SGL people thus Black LGBT people don't feel the need to stand up to be seen and heard. If it is important for people like Tavis Smiley and O to highlight the issues that impact Black LGBT people then perhaps the Black LGBT community should better articulate what the issues are and how they might be most effectively addressed in the broader society. |

| You probably know or remember Laurnea most from her debut CD on Yab Yum /Sony released in 1997 called Betta Listen, where she worked with some great producers such as, Omar, Raphael Saddiq, Speech, DJ Kemit , Jon John Robinson and others, with 2 hit singles Can't Let Go and Infatuation. Laurnea also contributed background vocals to India Arie's Voyage To India and India newest release Testimony. Her music was also featured in the hit film Soulfood and on the soundtrack of Exposure. Laurnea's voice can sound soft and ethereal, energized and edgy or simply big and soulful. She draws on jazz, r&b, hiphop and electronica to create her own personal - always soulful - mix. Don't miss the Tallahassee screening of the film that has everyone talking! Directed and produced by filmmakers Olive Demetrius and Hanifah Walidah, U people collects the stories of gender expression, sexual orientation and social placement of a rarely-depicted cross-section of people of color --women gay and straight, and gender non-conforming. U people reveals in-depth and candid conversations around many issues ranging from: homophobia, racism, where they both intersect, gender politics, parent/child relations, gay marriage, and civil rights. The mission of the documentary is to dismantle the blanket categorization and ignorance inherent in the phrase "you people" by displaying unique individuals in possession of personal power and self-determination. You can view the trailers, podcasts and find out more information about the film and filmmakers at: www.iloveupeople.com Running time 80 min.
